Day 7: What was that cheer?

Hello for the second time today! I know you all missed hearing from me. We were back at it today with company visits, heading out to Hasselblad and ABB.

Hasselblad, a premium camera company, entertained us this morning with a brief presentation about their history and a tour of their factory. We heard from a project manager and a member of the marketing team during our time there. We also had the chance to see some of their cameras and play around with them after the presentation. During the factory tour we learned that the cameras can take anywhere between 3 and 6 hours to make depending on the type of camera. We also learned that majority of the people buying the cameras are high-end photographers. Unfortunately, we were not able to take a camera with us when leaving.

We then headed over to ABB to learn about their business and see where JJ worked when he lived over here in Sweden. We started the visit out with lunch per usual, but it was quite an interesting lunch. JJ had been raving about this pea soup and pancake mixture (odd?) that Swedes have only on Thursdays during Winter. I couldn’t pull myself to try it, but I did cave and try a different soup because I wasn’t sure on all of the other food (this really threw me back to Spain 2 years ago if you followed my journey there too). After that, we headed to a conference room to listen to a presentation from Bert. Bert decided to focus his presentation on technology and how new things, like VR and automated reality, are eventually going to take over the business world. It was a very interesting presentation and gave you some different views to look at virtual reality.

Tonight we had one of the best experiences I have had in Sweden, the hockey game! I have never been to a hockey game back in the states, so I was unsure of what to expect. When we walked into the stadium it was so much more than I expected. We sat right next to a fan section that stood the whole time and cheered, so it kept us engaged and energetic the whole night. Our little group (Kendall, Matt, Lauren, and myself) decided to have a lot of fun and try and repeat the cheers that the other section was doing next to us. We succeeded at some, and failed a little at the others. Apparently we did pretty solid though, because a fan that was sitting near us came up and gave the four of us scarves for being such great fans!

Tomorrow we have another day of company visits, followed by an entirely free weekend! Stay tuned to see more adventures.

Have a great night!

Top Takeaways:

  1. I may not have heard a single english word the entire hockey game, but it was still very fun!
  2. I think it’s illegal to have dogs without clothes here. Almost every single dog I’ve seen throughout the trip has had some sort of clothes on.
  3. The tram system sometimes is tough to navigate.
