Day 6: Crash and Burn

I know you all have been waiting anxiously for the past 24 hours, so I apologize for keeping you out of the loop for the past day! But don’t worry, you get 2 tonight so grab your popcorn!

Yesterday we only had one visit, but it was Volvo! JJ met two individuals that work at Volvo the past couple years and they invited us to come visit them. In the morning we had the unique opportunity to see a test crash! Unfortunately, we were unable to take any pictures or videos, but check out this video to see an example of what we saw! Our tour guides, Sylvia and Morgan, both have been working there for more than 15 years and have never seen one, so we were very lucky to have the opportunity!

After the crash test (which was very cool I must add, remember to wear your seatbelts everyone), we headed to the assembly plant to get a tour! Morgan led us around the building and added in a lot of fun to your typical tour. We had the chance to see the entire process, most of which is done by hand! Another surprising fact that I learned was that there were a lot of female workers in the plant, something you often don’t see back in the US. Overall, it was a very cool day and we learned a lot about cars!

After Volvo the only other plans of the day was cooking school! If you really know me, you’ll know that I am a VERY picky eater and am not a fan of trying new food. We had 2 chefs at Aveqia, Michael and Daniel, who were both very fun and willing to cook with a bunch of college students. We all broke into 4 different groups to make the starter, appetizers, the main meal, and dessert. My group made the appetizer and consisted of Lauren, Matt, Kendall, Sarah, and myself. Our meal consisted of a LOT of beets, apple leather, homemade mayo, baked pistachios, and cheese. I had the pleasure of juicing the beets (thankfully, none of the juice got on my clothes), breaking apart the cheese, and cooking the pistachios. Chef Michael told me I was a star at flipping the pistachios, check me out for all of your future needs. I tried at least a bite of everything, but I’ll be honest, I like my chicken and veggies a little more. The main meal, reindeer, was actually not as bad as I thought it would be.

The cooking class was very fun and I highly recommend it to anyone in the future. We may not have been the best cooks, but we all pitched in to make a relatively decent meal. We don’t have any pictures ready yet, but make sure to check back in to the Camera Roll tab later this week to see some pictures!

Top Takeaways:

  1. The Swedes really like their beets. Lyndsey, not so much.
  2. Volvo cars are very nice and I would not be opposed to having one (after I start making the big bucks of course).
  3. If you order pepperoni pizza in Europe, chances are it’s going to have mushrooms baked into the cheese. Shoutout to Kendall and Matt for figuring this one out.
