Day 11: The lasts of the lasts

Good evening and welcome to late night blogging!

Today was our last day of company visits and they were two very interesting ones! Kendall and I started the day a little too late (whoops), and missed breakfast before our first company. Lucky us though, the first company had Fika so we were still able to get our morning coffee!

The first company we visited today was BraunAbility. They were nice enough to send us a bus to pick us up and bring us to the company so we didn’t have to walk or take any trams there. BraunAbility is a company that makes special devices and wheelchairs that give individuals with disabilities the ability to be independent in cars. We had the opportunity to meet with a variety of people at the company, including their engineer/designer, HR, and product engineer. My favorite person that we heard from today was the engineer. He explained to us how all the different parts and devices are thought of, as well as showing us how many different crazy tests are done in order to ensure the best safety for all users. As all car companies do crash tests, it is even more important for companies like this one to because they are working with individuals with disabilities.

After the engineer we went out to the demo floor and saw some of the devices put to work. I have to admit, before this trip I didn’t know half of these devices existed. There are devices to put on the steering wheel that let individuals without use of their legs the able ness to step on the gas and break, different rooftop devices to store wheelchairs, and many more! The most interesting thing I learned from here was that the government will pay for all the car supplies up to age 65.

After BraunAbility, they bused us over to Remente where we had our final company visit. The combination of the rainy day and the dark bus equaled a great sleeping environment. Remente is a mental health app that focuses on reaching goals both physically and mentally. We met with the CEO and he explained that mental illness is the leading cause of sick-days every year. Additionally, it is becoming a huge topic of discussion at the university aged schooling. The app focuses on creating small goals and setting different reminders and deadlines until you reach the goal. Before we left for Sweden I downloaded the app and I must say, it is very relaxing!

Once we were done with our quick visit to Remente we decided to hit up a few more stores. If you’ve been following, you know that the (Parón) or pear cider has been our favorite. We bought a few cans each to bring back to the states! We then found a local brewery/restaurant and our little group decided to go there for dinner. I’m not exaggerating when I say they had 7 pages of beer options (oddly only 1 page of food though…?)

Check out the itinerary and you’ll see that tomorrow is curling! Check back again tomorrow night to see if any bones were broken!

Top Takeaways

1. Considering almost everyone has dogs, we learned that there are a lot of people that don’t like them. So much that they put shreds of glass and rat poisoning on the streets so they eat it and get sick!!

2. Triple IPAs are very popular here in Sweden, with almost every bar featuring a new type.

3. If you tell a Swede to play Country Roads, they 100% will play an upbeat remix and be disappointed when they hear the right one.
